COMMENTARY: As Cardinal Pell, Bishop Bätzing and others would testify from different perspectives, papal interview controversies are not rare, but rarely corrected.
Those priests, as well as a member of Courage, urge for a fuller explanation of the sacrament and why same-sex unions can’t be equated with authentic marriage.

The priest’s downplaying of Archbishop Rembert Weakland’s grave offenses is a painful reminder of the steep hill that the Church in the U.S. still must climb in order to regain its moral authority.
Archbishop Weakland died Aug. 22 after a long illness. He resigned as Milwaukee’s archbishop in 2002 after revelations that the archdiocese had paid $450,000 to silence Paul J. Marcoux, an adult seminarian with whom he had had a sexual relationship.
Father Martin's ministry has become increasingly controversial because of his incremental departure from Catholic doctrine.
The dispute follows violence and riots at the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump supporters last week, leading to several deaths and dozens of injured police officers.
