Preserving the current rule means ‘students of all faiths will remain free to establish and maintain communities defined by shared religious commitments on their public college campuses,’ the bishops’ letter said.
The USCCB reiterates the Church’s preference for burial of the deceased and stating that newer methods do not show respect for the human body.
Such interventions are not to be performed because they do not respect the fact that God has created each person as a unity of body and soul or work toward the authentic good of the human person, the USCCB explained.
Brownsville, Texas, shepherd is one of three bishops on the preparatory commission, which also includes three priests and a religious sister.

‘Anyone who espouses racism or promotes violence is rejecting Catholic teaching on the inherent dignity of each and every person,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee for Religious Liberty, said. ‘The USCCB roundly condemns such extremism and fully supports the work of law enforcement officials to keep our communities safe.’
Abortion spending restrictions such as the Hyde Amendment have traditionally enjoyed bipartisan support, with even President Joe Biden, a Catholic, voting for it as a senator.
