More than 1,700 people participated in the pilgrimage from Mission San Gabriel Arcángel to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.
The donations will be managed by the Los Angeles office of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, one of the four Pontifical Mission Societies that supports worldwide underserved communities.
Bishop Clark, who was named a bishop in 2001, served as Auxiliary Bishop for the Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region.
Both pro-life events taking place in California are scheduled for this weekend.
During his homily, Archbishop Gomez reflected on the wedding at Cana, saying that through the miracle performed there Christ “wanted to show us that the marriage of man and woman is a symbol of how much God loves each one of us.”
The statement to archdiocesan priests included a two sentence quote from a document of the U.S. bishops’ conference, and provided links to three documents that “might be helpful in understanding the morality of receiving the vaccine.”
The gift will be allocated over a five-year period for students at the 212 Archdiocese of Los Angeles Catholic schools in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
At the end of the 2020-21 school year, six elementary schools will close: Assumption, Blessed Sacrament, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Ferdinand, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Madeline.
This year, the archdiocese will also offer a series of education videos online, so students can learn about the meaning and history of Día de los Muertos with their families.
