U.S. bishops that attended the 2015 synod on the family reported their experiences and observations at the fall general assembly of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Reception of Communion for divorced-remarried Catholics, the role of bishops’ conferences and whether the synod will result in a final document are central concerns.
The text of a letter allegedly written by 13 cardinals to Pope Francis is inaccurate, said Cardinal George Pell, prefect of the Vatican’s Secretariat for the Economy, adding that the contents of private documents should remain private.
New report says the document ought to begin “with hope,” since many families are living the Gospel’s message about marriage.
The archbishop said on Oct. 7 that the English-speaking bishops have 'the additional problem of trying to deal with very serious issues in languages we don’t clearly understand.'
‘Either it wasn’t a marriage, and this is nullity — it didn’t exist,’ he told reporters. ‘And if it did, it’s indissoluble. This is clear.’
NEWS ANALYSIS: According to one priest, the working document, issued Tuesday, reflects fidelity to the Church’s traditional teaching and the diversity of opinions within the Church today regarding hot-button issues.
The working document for this fall’s family synod was released today.
