Organized by Communion and Liberation, this year's event includes Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Borys Gudziak, Diane Foley, and a special tribute to Benedict XVI, among others.
Followers of the ecclesial movement traveled from more than 60 countries for the encounter in St. Peter’s Square Oct. 15 with the Holy Father, who acknowledged that the movement has been in a period of transition.
In the words of Servant of God Father Luigi Giussani, the founder of Communion and Liberation, the Encounter exists to help people ‘live the real intensely.’
The 71-year-old was re-elected president of Communion and Liberation for another six years in March 2020.
Archbishop Filippo Santoro of Taranto, Italy, will temporarily assume the governance of the association “in order to safeguard its charism and preserve the unity of the members,” the Vatican announced Sept. 24.
This year’s version of the annual Catholic event will be livestreamed via YouTube from Feb. 12-14.
