Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Carl Anderson also warned that a ‘final solution’ is being inflicted on Christians and other vulnerable communities in the Middle East.
The visit will assert “the Christian commitment” to supporting all those who have been wounded by ISIS including Christians, Muslims and Yazidis.
Congressional vote follows the declaration from the European Union Parliament in early February and comes ahead of the U.S. State Department’s March 17 deadline for announcing if it will issue an official declaration.
Catholic fraternal organization’s petition asks Secretary of State John Kerry ‘to declare that Christians, along with Yazidis and other minorities, are targets of ongoing genocide.’
Such a declaration is significant because it calls for members of the United Nations Security Council to refer the matter to the International Criminal Court, which would officially investigate to see if genocide is taking place.
