“May God abundantly reward all who have assisted me, and continue to assist me, so that I may fully return to the active service of our Lord and of his mystical body, the Church,” the cardinal said.
Cardinal Burke explained that he was speaking out because the issue was “a matter of life and death for the unborn and of eternal salvation for the Catholic politicians involved.”
In his Friday statement, Cardinal Burke noted that offering daily Mass “unites me most fully to you in our spiritual bond as members of the Mystical Body of Christ.”
Pointing to the fact that the cardinal had regained consciousness, Father Paul Check said: ‘His sister spoke with him on the phone this morning, and His Eminence expressed his deep gratitude for the many prayers offered on his behalf.’
According to an authorized statement from the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the cardinal remains sedated and on a medical ventilator and his family has expressed confidence in the care he is receiving.
In a social media post Tuesday, Cardinal Burke shared the news asking for prayers for his recovery.
