The secretary of state, who is the second most powerful person in the Vatican after the Pope, addressed EWTN during the global Catholic television network’s 7th European affiliates meeting.
Cardinal Parolin’s visit will take place July 1-8.

China was the subject of talks this week between Cardinal Parolin and the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who has argued that the agreement has failed to protect China’s Catholics from a crackdown on religious believers under President Xi Jinping.
Addressing the conference, the Vatican's top diplomats focused on the necessity of protecting freedom of conscience and religious voices in the public square.
Carmelo Barbagallo, president of the Vatican’s Financial Information Authority, described the inspection as “especially important.”
