Cardinal Gregory called for prayer, and for an end to “divisive” and “inflammatory” rhetoric, adding that “[t]hose who resort to inflammatory rhetoric must accept some responsibility for inciting the increasing violence in our nation.”
“I went back to the Bible and to the words of my family,” says the niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., “and I realized that we just must keep praying.”
Speaking with the Register from his office on Capitol Hill about the lockdown, Fortenberry said the Catholic Church needs to take the lead in pushing back against the political tribalism that triggered today’s violence in Washington.
