In a wide-ranging interview, the archbishop emeritus reacts to some of the latest news revolving around the ongoing synod reminding Catholics: ‘Church gatherings should be about proclaiming the Gospel and not about advancing a particular ideology or sociological analysis.’
‘That’s a form of lying. Mr. Biden is not in communion with the Catholic faith. And any priest who now provides Communion to the president participates in his hypocrisy.’
Joe Biden will become the second baptized Catholic to be sworn in as U.S. president.
The event is an annual gathering of Catholic leaders held in Washington, D.C., begun in 2004 to promote Pope John Paul II’s call for the New Evangelization.

The Philadelphia archbishop critiqued proposals to admit to sacramental Communion those divorced-and-civilly-remarried persons who carry on marital relations, despite the validity of the prior union, instead of living chastely as brother and sister.
While Western media may have overlooked it, within the synod halls, the bishops were earnestly discussing how to deal with a problem that is a scourge to families and the Church.
The archbishop of New York, part of the ongoing synod on the family, said those striving for virtue also need to feel the Church’s ‘support and encouragement.’
